Cross just got a lot muddier…

It was another busy weekend for Team Orange, as Phoebe hit the Notts and Derby League on Saturday, the ‘southern contingent’ all raced at Round 3 of the Western League in Cheltenham on Sunday, and Scot was up north putting in his final preparations for the upcoming 3 Peaks Cyclocross.

Once again, Phoebe lined up alongside a large number of women for Round 2 of the Notts and Derby League last Saturday at Chetwydn Barracks on a tough and challenging course. After a good start she found herself in the lead of the Senior women’s race, managed to keep the pressure on throughout, and landed on the podium – coming home in a solid 3rd place… cracking work Phoebe!

Meanwhile, in Cheltenham, Sam, Nick, Mike, Pitman Stu and Scotty took to the start line for Round 3 of the Western League. After a lot of rain on the Saturday, the course was already a little ‘slick’, but the sun had come out for race day and the boys were set for a fast race! Here is a quick report from Team Manager/rider Scotty…

After lots of rain on the Saturday, it looked like we might be in for a dry race… well, it started that way! It was great to have all of the ‘southern lads’ here racing together. There were three of us on the front row and we made full use of it at the start, all getting off the line well. Meanwhile a bit further back, Nick and Stu were caught up in a bit of first lap mayhem. Sam and I slotted into 2nd and 3rd into the first corner with Mike just behind and we then moved up to 1st and 2nd. Time to get our heads down… Then it rained… oh, it rained!! Conditions completely changed and the course became really slippery, good practice of the old bike handling skills! I then moved into the lead and distanced myself from Sam (who hadn’t been 100% going into the race) and then tried to get some decent time between Sam and third placed rider Krzysztof  Chrostek (Faux Pro). I managed it for a lap or two, but then had to let go of the lead to Chrostek and he then got the gap up to around 20 seconds. It then stayed like this until the end of the hour race. Behind me Sam having a few issues including a few ‘get downs’, But all in all, a decent team outing, Sam winning the junior race, then Myself, Mike and Nick coming home 2nd, 5th and 7th respectively in the senior category.

This coming weekend, the team will be spread across the country again, in local leagues, plus both Scot and Scotty will be representing the team in the world famous 3 Peaks Cyclocross. Keep an eye out for the next blog, our man Scot Easter looks ahead to the weekends BIG race!
