Scot Easter - Magspeed Racing

Another weekend has come and gone, seeing the team have been race all over country. – from Sam down in the Western League, through the West Midlands with Phoebe, and up to Yorkshire for the Points Series and North West League with James and Scot respectively…

Phoebe headed to the West Midlands League, as opposed to her normal Notts and Derby, so was right at the back of the busy grid. From the gun she was in amongst the traffic and carved her way through the field to come home 2nd in the Senior women’s category, a cracking result!

James headed to the Yorkshire Points Series and lined up against some very handy veteran riders, in the shape of National Champion Paul Oldham and his team mate Rob Jebb. With lots of jostling for position from the start Tomo had plenty of battles all race long, but had a solid ride coming home in 4th place, narrowly missing out on a podium spot!

Scot headed to Beacon Country Park to his local North West League, to line up against the usual suspects and do battle. One T seems to be heading into some good form, with another strong showing. On a tough course with some nasty little ‘digs’, Scot put his technical skills to very good use and managed to work his way through the field and all the way up to 6th position, a cracking result in such a strong field.

Round 6 of the Western League came to Purdown in Bristol and Sam was the lone Magspeed rider with both Nick and Scotty sitting this one out due to a very busy racing and training schedule in the lead-up to Christmas. But our boy Sam Smith was as he lined up on the front row. After his very strong performance at the last round of the National Trophy Series, Smith wasn’t taking it any easier. From the start Sam lead, getting the holeshot into the first corner and never looking back, with the league regulars left battling for second for the rest of the race. Nothing was going to hold Sam back – after running wide and into a hedgerow, his shoe came undone and not long after came off, leaving him to ride a lap with just one shoe! He managed to pick it and get it back on next time around, without losing much time at all – a cracking effort once again. It looks like there isn’t any stopping our talented Junior racer so far this season! Sam finished the race at Purdown with a big lead, winning the Junior race aswell as taking 1st overall, beating all of his Senior counterparts.

Next week sees the return of the National Trophy, this time in Crawley, a new addition to the series. Some of our riders will head there to take on the country’s best whilst we will still have Team Orange riders heading to their various local leagues… so they’ll be lots to report next week!
