Smithy: racing all the way to the end

With most of the team done for the season, it was left to one of our young guns Sam Smith to fly the spotty flag. He travelled down to the final round of the Wessex League at the Southampton Sports Centre to race on the fast and dry course, despite some mid week rain. Trying to make the most of his last season as a Junior, Sam is racing right upto the end of the season and will finish off this coming weekend at Keynsham, along with a good chunk of the ‘southern contingent’. Natalie will start her adventure racing season this weekend in Surrey, so we wish her lots of luck in her first adventure race flying the spotty flag!

Sam headed to Southampton and the venue of many a past National Trophy battle to pit himself against some of the top Juniors in the South of England. After a rough few days leading upto the race with a tight chest, Sam didn’t feel tip top on what is quite a demanding course – full of gradient changes, where the riders are pretty much constantly climbing or descending. Despite all this, after a tough race, our boy managed to bring home a fine 2nd place, another solid Podium for the Cheltenham rider.

One more to go…then the 2018/19 Cyclocross season is ticked off…it’s been a cracker!
