Sherwood Shines

Last weekend saw the start of the National MTB series in sunny conditions at Sherwood Pines. A very fast course, with little ascent, made for some hard old races with no let-up all race long!

First up, on the Saturday, was our man Mike Brunsdon, making a welcome return to the start line of a MTB race. Racing in the Sport category, he was up against a busy grid of riders eager to get their seasons going and Mike managed to put a solid display in to come back with a top 30 result, in what was his first national race in years – good work Mike!

Sunday saw James fly the spotty flag first, in the Veteran Mens race, up against a tough field, including many of his Cyclocross nemeses from the past winter. Alow gridding meant he had to work hard work right from the gun! Tomo battled all race long and came in 15th, a solid start to his MTB season!

The last races of the day were the Elite, Junior and Expert Mens races. The three races, in which Sam, Scot and Scotty raced in the Junior and Expert categories respectively, set off separately at 3 minute intervals.  Sam was feeling better after his recent illness and got stuck-in from the start on a course well suited to his power. Sam was in the top 20 from the gun and this is where he stayed, working his way up to a very creditable 12th place! Behind, it was time for the Scot(t)s to do battle, and from the off, Two T realised he didn’t have the legs…maybe it was the tiredness of Mallorca catching up with him. Still, he fought the best he could, and had some good battles throughout, but he finally ended up 30th which was not quite what he’d hoped for. Nonetheless, it wasn’t a bad result…and he was still smiling at the end, which above all, is the main thing! Meanwhile, not far behind at all, One T was catching Scotty early on, then the gap remained steady for a lap or two, until a front wheel puncture put pay to any form of a decent result for Scot…roll on the next one.

A solid all round performance for the team and a fun day out, with a top support team, this time in the shape of Lydia, Phoebe, Nibbs and pit man Stu. Roll on the next race and fun Magspeed day out…we can’t wait!
