Podiums keep coming

With the summer season in full flow, our riders have been racing MTB, summer Cyclocross and some Road too… Sam and Henry in the Western Summer Cyclocross League, Tomo in the Yorkshire Points Summer Cyclocross League. On the MTB, Scotty, Sean and Marc rode at the latest round of the Southern XC and Tomo, the West Midlands Series. Sam has also been trying his hand at some road racing, at the ever popular Castle Combe Summer Series.

Sam and Henry headed to the Western League round at Oldbury Court and from the gun were in the mix against the mostly Senior competitors. The boys did a great job showing off their orange kit and soon Sam was in the lead and he never looked back! He put his head down and the lead gap grew and grew, finally coming in over a minute ahead of the 2nd place rider. Henry also put in a strong performance, considering he has had so few races in his legs over the summer due to concentrating on his current exams, bringing home 7th overall and 2nd Junior.

Tomo also rode a midweek ‘cross, back at the Yorkshire Summer Series and once again put in a strong performance against a packed out northern grid of riders. Tomo put in some very consistent laps to come away with the win in the Veteran category and 7th overall.

Come the weekend, it was more summer Cyclocross action for Sam and Henry, this time the Gloucester round of the Western League. A busier grid for the weekend race and this wet conditions making for a slightly less straight forward race, making the boys work a little harder with their bike handling whilst competing against older and more experienced rivals. But yet again, our boys did us proud, with Sam taking the overall and Junior win and Henry 5th overall and 2nd in the Junior category.

Further north and Tomo was yet again getting on the podium, this time in the West Midlands MTB series and leading from the gun, our man was never far from the front of the race. Eventually coming in with 2nd and another trophy for the collection, Tomo’s form is strong, which bodes well with his big target for the year, the Leadville 100 in America in August.

Much further down south Scotty, Sean and Marc were racing at Folly Farm near Basingstoke in the fourth round of the Southern XC. A brand new course and a very hard one at that, with hardly any let up for the riders, lots of technical sections, roots, short climbs and decents and along with that, bloody bumpy! First off, Marc and Sean at 9.45 for the Open and Sport categories. A rough start for Sean meant that he was left to go full gas for the opening lap to get anywhere near the front of the race. Eventually he did, but the early effort began to show and before the end of the race, he definitely knew he’d gone too hard and slipped down the leader board a little, but still managing 9th after all his efforts. Meanwhile, in the Open race, Marc was battling his way around the rough course, also bringing back a top 10, in 8th! Later in the day Scotty managed to get a great start and be battling up the front with the Elite riders and had a very strong race in the changing conditions, with a few downpours making for a few briefly slippery sections of the course. A solid and consistent ride meant that he came to the line in 2nd with a big grin on his face, job well done.

Another productive and fun week by Team Orange…roll on this weekend for more riding and racing.
