Last week was quite light on the racing front, but Tomo and Scotty both took part in mid-week Summer Cyclocross races, with Tomo heading to the Yorkshire Points Series in Harrogate, and Scotty to the latest Western League race at Hartham Park in Wiltshire. Our Juniors went to Castle Combe for the mid week Summer Series and both rode cracking races, notably Sam bringing home a 5th place, his best road result to date, great work boys!
Tomo was once again in the thick of the action from the gun and managed to stay at the pointy end of the race for its entirety! Mixing it with the Senior and Junior racers up front, our man showed off his speed and bike handling skills in what were pretty wet and muddy conditions! Tomo was in great company, and was kept on his toes as he battled all race-long with the likes of well-known ‘crosser Ian Taylor. Another Magspeed podium, with James finishing 2nd overall and, with that, winning the Veteran category, cracking effort!
Meanwhile, down south, Scotty travelled to the latest round of the ever-popular Western League Summer Series, held at the relatively new venue of Hartham Park, near Chippenham. With some tired legs after a hard weekend on the bike our man wasn’t too sure how the evening would pan out and from pretty early in the race, it was obvious it wasn’t going to be his strongest of races… The course was tough – which made for some hard racing, on the lovely summer evening in Wiltshire, but Scotty got a fast start and then slotted into the top 3, sitting there for a lap or so before heading to the front and spending a good chunk of the race there. But the tired legs weren’t playing ball and Chalmers slid to 2nd place and eased a little so as to try and not ruin his legs. All was set for staying in that position, but with two laps to go, a tangle with a back marker sent Scotty into the long grass, which proceeded to fill his rear mech. He managed a cool and calm stop to remove said grass, but it was very jammed, so 2nd place was lost, and our man had to settle for 3rd place – not too bad considering the challenges of the race!
With the longest day behind us, it’s not all downhill from now…we’re due to get some hot weather…perfect for some midsummer racing and adventures!!
