Magspeed Weekender

Last weekend saw a big chunk of the team gather at Magspeed HQ in the Cotswolds. A good chance for as many of the team to get together and also meet new members to Team Orange.

Saturday started at The Ark Cycles, our great sponsor in the Stroud valleys, where the riders all got to see the gang there! Then it was off on the bikes and STRAIGHT up the side of the valley, which was a shock to the system but once at the top, it is so worth it for the views! A mixture of ‘cross and MTB’s on the ride (and Becky trying to a ‘cross bike for the first time and learning very quickly!) made for lots of fun and games on the very undulating loop. A mixture of lanes, woods, common land, gravel tracks ended up at the Jolly Nice Farm Shop for coffee. Lots of chatting and drinking before heading down the hill into the bottom of the valley and back to the shop, then back to Magspeed HQ in convoy for a barbecue.

Sunday consisted of a decent breakfast, then a good loop on the bikes taking in a lunch stop, before back for tea and cake… New kit was issued to all of the riders and we are SO pleased with it! Our new supplier is Castelli and we are super happy to be working with them and Saddleback (more news to come on our new kit soon!). Similar to the loop we did as a team at Christmas, but this time a few more on board…13 infact, all rolling out and flying the spotty flag, was quite a sight…and caught the eye of a lot of passers by, which made us chuckle! A great weekend of fun, new riders getting to know each other and steady rides…working well as for many it is the calm before the storm of a new season on the horizon and for some it is nearing the end of their season, so nice to ease have some fun heading into the off season.

The weekend just gone saw Sean, Scotty and Stu head to the Torq in your sleep (light – reduced to 3 or 6hr events) at Deepcut Barracks. A VERY hot Bank Holiday weekend meant for some dusty and very physically demanding racing for the boys. Stu took to the start of the 3hr solo event and Sean and Scotty in the 6hr pairs event. After a frantic start, Scotty got his head down and slowly pulled back positions all the time throughout his first two laps before handing over to Sean. The boys knocked out pretty consistent laps throughout the race whilst trying to keep on top of hydration and nutrition, which when it is that hot, is quite an art! Eventually coming home in 4th, a solid result, in what is probably the hardest category to race in, with lots of very quick competition! Stu battled on throughout the 3hr race and rode consistently and had a really strong race, coming home 10th!

With September FAST approaching, its nearly that time… Cyclocross season!! See you on the grid!
