Well that summer went quick! Cyclocross is here and we have hit the ground running! Sean kicked off the Team Orange ‘cross season on September 1st in Bradford On Avon and managed an 8th place…not too shabby, considering it was his third ‘cross race ever. Last weekend saw the team in action all across the country! Nat and Phoebe were up in Scotland, riding the Scotduro event, 200miles, self supported on their MTB’s. Blighty was down south opening up his Cyclocross season in the South West League, Tracey up in the Notts and Derby League and a big crew in Gloucester, for the Gloucester round of the Western League. Sally, Sam, Stu, Sean, Scotty and Mike all took to the start line on what was to be a super fast race!
Blighty got off to a great start down south and came away with a cracking result! Up the front all race long and battling with some very quick boys! Blighty came away with a 3rd in the senior race and not far from the front two, the hard work he has put in over the summer seems to be paying off!
Meanwhile further up the country Tracey got her season going in the Notts and Derby League. Her first time out in her new Magspeed Racing National Champions jersey, and ohhh doesn’t it look cool!! 7th overall in the women’s race and 2nd in category…pretty strong start that!!
Back down south, in the Western League, Round 2 was held at the boating lake in Gloucester. A good bunch of Team Orange were there to show off the new kit. Sally kicking things off first with her debut in the orange, taking on a much younger grid of girls, but showing her experience and skill, to be at the pointy end of the race, leading for stretches, before finally coming 3rd overall and winning her category, amazing stuff!
Next up, the boys…Sam, Stu, Sean, Mike and Scotty in the senior race in a busy grid of speedy chaps. Sam managed to get the hole shot and Sean and Scotty got boxed in and then proceeded to get caught in ‘traffic’ whilst the Magspeed young gun made his early move and disappeared. Eventually Scotty made his way through the bunch and into second and then started to pull away, with Sean in third. Within two laps, Scotty was experiencing problems with his gears, so came into change bikes, changing nice and smoothly and then back out, to then puncture within 100 metres! It was then a loooong half lap back to the pits! Now back outside the top 10, it was going to be a big task to get back near the podium. But, keeping calm, Scotty gradually worked his way back to the podium and eventually grabbing 2nd, with two laps to go! Meanwhile Sam was enjoying not being under pressure out front and brought home the overall win! Sean was in a race long battle and JUST missed out on the podium, but a very strong ride to come in 4th and Mike a solid ride to come inside the top 10 and Stu just outside the top 20.
So…its here, that thing we’ve been talking about for the last few months…Cross is here!
