A very busy weekend for the team just gone! We had riders competing in the Masters World Championships in Mol, Belgium, a Ride For Charlie funded weekend for Sam also in Belgium, plus plenty of muddy action in various local league around the country.
First up, Tracey raced on Friday in Mol, lining up to race for the Masters World Championship jersey. Trying the regain the jersey she won two years ago, it was always going to be a tough day out! A very sandy course at Mol, with predominantly running sections connecting the short, but fast muddier sections amongst the trees. On great form, Tracey was always in the thick of the action, but it wasn’t to be her day and she came in 4th, still a cracking result!!
Next up, it was Nick’s turn to tackle the sandy race circuit and he was in a perfect position to try and get a cracking result, with a front row start. In a tough age group, Blighty was in for a tough day out! But our man was on fire and came home 15th!! The next day he drove to Holland and raced in Breda and scored a 12th…decent weekend for the Devon boy!
In Derby the NDCXL was returning the Moorways Stadium where the first round of the National Trophy Series took place in September. Much muddier conditions for the riders this time out, lots of ruts and slippery off camber to keep everyone in check! Di, Caroline and Neil all took to the start line and put in some strong performances!
Nat J headed to Bristol and Oldbury Court to race the Western League and was met with a big turnout due to no Welsh League and the women’s race was won by none other than Trek Factory Racing’s Evie Richards. Nat still coming back from injury put in a great performance and came in 3rd Senior and 7th overall, brilliant stuff!
Back over in Belgium, Sam, Scotty and Stu were on a road trip of their own. Sam and Scotty both raced the floodlit race in Vichte on the Saturday night which was a great event in which 400 riders raced over all the categories that evening! Both the boys were a little under the weather but they got stuck in nonetheless. Scotty coming home 16th in his race and Sam with a 6th in the U23’s, both going from the back of the grid!! Sunday saw the boys head to the Vlaamse Cyclocross Cup race at Moerkerke. A mint course with some really cool man made features, made for a fun lap! Once again the two Magspeeders weren’t feeling too tip top, but, being there it had to be done. Scotty was off first and had some fun despite really ‘feeling it’, but made the best of it and came home 12th, so not all bad. Sam was off in the last race of the day in with the U23’s and it was fast!! Smithy held his own for a good chunk of the race, but his body decided to switch ‘race mode’ off and the tank was empty. A DNF wasn’t how he wanted to end his weekend, but its all experience and one that was very generously helped out by the Ride For Charlie Foundation, MUCH appreciated! Belgium, we’ll be back for much more of the same next year!
So, a very busy weekend had by all! This weekend sees the various Divisional Championships in which we will have some orange in the mix, lets get muddy!
